Tijuanalandia is the creation of Jason Thomas Fritz, a journalist and graduate student at San Diego State University living in Tijuana. Acknowledging that Tijuana defies any attempt at defining it, Tijuanalandia aims to explore this most misunderstood of cities through visual dispatches. The outsider’s portrait of the city that emerges is an effort to challenge the narratives of crime, violence and vice that dominate popular conceptions of Tijuana.

Jason, this is AMAZING!! I love this website: the stories, information, the short films with props to TJ music and your photographs are phenomenal! I especially love the way you’ve compared images in the two montages. So cool, congrats! I’m passing on this site to my friends. Hope you’re well!
Cheers,
Elizabeth

Dude, your blog is off the meter. As a native of San Diego and an frequent visit to Tijuana, I think what you are doing is great. You are breathing life into what was once a great city. Your piece on Tropico hits home with me. Having spent a great deal of time at both Dandy del Sur and Tropico I can feel the passion. If you wish, give me your contact as I would love to hang the next time my friends and I come down.
Keep up the good work and don’t hesitate to post more.
Anthony
Jason,
So glad I came across this! Your photos and writing are spectacular. I just subscribed. Hope all is well with you. Despite the endless workload for school, everything is Dandy at the U of O and in the PNW.

Hi Jason,
I just came across your blog site and I’m sincerely blown away! I’m an artist as well and seeing your work has inspired me! I’m so glad you’re showing a human side to Tijuana! Your images speak volumes and are heartfelt!
One suggestion, I think you should start a Fan Page on Facebook so many more people could see and appreciate your work!
Much luck and success to you! Thank you!
Joyce
Excellent images. Will you be taking photos tomorrow when Tijuana wins it’s first big-time soccer title?

Excellent work! Makes me nostalgic for my own youth arriving in Cd. Juarez from the white washed American South roughly 23 years ago. In those days, it wasn’t as easy to share such strange sights and rare finds from la frontera as it is now. Thanks for sharing …
Jason, your work is remarkable. Your photos are gorgeous in an unromantic but somehow optimistic way. You are able to capture a moment in time like few others.
Keep it up!
May I have permission to post one of your pictures (I haven’t chosen yet) on my blog?
